Teresa Ryan, PT, MA, BCC
We all have the answers...we do. Teresa (T) has known this from the time that she started practicing physical therapy almost 30 years ago; no one knew her patients' bodies better than they did. No physician conference or doctoral degree or continuing education course could surpass that. The answers were there; her task was to help uncover them. We all have a unique story...our own story, with meanings and layers and consequences. T recognized this when she sought her master's in counseling psychology to learn how to become a more active listener...to bring to life that patients are the experts; professionals merely the guides. The answers were there; her task was to help recover them. We all have dreams and perhaps unrealized goals...T shares her clients' potential vision and combines her depth of education and experience to motivate, empower and explore clients' intentions, wisdom and commitments. The answers are there; her task is to help discover them.
Teresa is a physical therapist who attended the University of Scranton in PA for her BS. Quickly respecting the link of mind/body on health, she obtained her master's degree in psychological counseling from Monmouth University shortly after starting her private practice, TRUE Physical Therapy. T credits much of her success as a PT practitioner and personal trainer to her counseling degree. As the physical therapy profession advanced towards entry level doctorate education, T earned her doctoral degree from Boston University to appreciate the demands of her student interns. Life coaching appealed to her as a natural springboard from the solution focused therapy that she'd chosen as a PT and personal trainer, prompting her to secure board certification as a life coach from the Center for Credentialing & Education.
Her professional practice progressed from orthopedics to cancer care, specializing in post diagnostic breast cancer rehabilitation. After a twenty year career in outpatient physical therapy, T recognized the waning ability for a small PT practice such as hers to survive and closed her doors.
As the philosopher Seneca posed, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
What begins is ability to commit to true life coaching....to collaborate and share her clients' journeys.
T loves the outdoors, training her pups, playing squash, hiking, reading, her extended family and friends and is finally learning to cook.
She lives in Oceanport, NJ with her partner of 25+ years.
**Of note and as stated, life coaching is NOT therapy or counseling. While Teresa holds a license to practice physical therapy in the state of New Jersey, in no way are her life coaching services meant or intended to represent, serve as or substitute for physical therapy. That is a separate licensed entity from life coaching which in no way is meant to evaluate, assess, treat or advise regarding muscoloskeletal or neuromuscular conditions or syndromes. ***
